A place where culture, art and nature come together
Gyeonggi SangSang Campus
A place where culture, art and nature come together
A multiplex that brings together various forms of culture and the arts amidst the thick woods, Gyeonggi Sangsang Campus experiments for the future and create new culture for life.
Located on a site previously occupied by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences of Seoul National University, Gyeonggi Sangsang Campus re-opened to the public as a new place for multiple forms of culture in June, 2016, that brings together many artists and local residents. The buildings of Life 1980, Youth 1981, and Education 1964 were remodeled into cultural spaces that offer opportunities to enjoy culture, take a pause and pursue education and creativity.
Gyeonggi Sangsang Campus is a forum where all generations can communicate with one another. Nature, civic life and youth come together to envision a new future, conduct experiments and create a new way of living and working. It is committed to becoming a ‘forest for all, a future campus.’
Gyeonggi Sangsang Campus creates a playground that features a virtuous cycle among work, play and learning. At present there are seven spaces in operation, with ‘Design 1978’ being completed the last in 2020. The name of each space combines the Korean name that captures the characteristics of the space and adds the year to it. It represents the desire to become a space where the past meets the present to dream of the future.
「Community 1980」 is an everyday living culture space enjoyed by all, while 「Sangsang 1990」 is an everyday cultural center for Gyeonggi to promote club and community activities. 「Youth 1981」 is where creative efforts are shared, and 「Factory 1967」 is a creators’ space open to all. 「Space 1986」 is a platform that converges various forms of culture and offers a stage for performances centered around media. 「Education 1964」 is a space for learning by all generations. 「Design 1978」 is a cultural space not only open to all but a gathering place for those willing to rise to the challenge through culture.
